Growing Friends

The sunlight is fading as we are left straying, slowly, one by one.
And I start complying because there's no more denying, the end of summer has come.
We'll speak of each other, like long forgotten lovers, people we used to know -
remembering "when" and remembering again, the time before the snow. We'll laugh as we say, "Remember the day..." as if it were not so far past,
wishing it was next year, to see our friends dear - oh summer, why can't you last?
"Outside the snow is falling and friends are calling" isn't that the way it goes?
But inside my heart, where it's broken apart, the green grass of summer still grows.
